Puzzle

Wedding planning is like a puzzle. A 500,000 piece puzzle. Each piece needs to be put into place before the walk down the aisle. I got all the corners sorted out (dress, church, reception hall, date), framed out the edge pieces (invitations, cake, flowers, registration, tuxes, choose the wedding party, centerpieces, music, ceremony order, etc).

Now it's just fitting into place all the center filler pieces. Funny pieces with odd shapes.

Like the timeline for the wedding day...what pictures do we want taken before the wedding? How long with those take? How long will it take everyone to get ready? When do people need to be at the church?

Or what will we do for wedding favors?

Or who's going to decorate the church before the ceremony?

There are hundreds of little things that go into the wedding that I never would have even guessed at before.

So, tenaciously I pick up each piece, examine it, look for where it fits into the puzzle and carefully put it into place.

Luckily, I've had a lot of help getting it together.

When I'm finished, I'm going to put Modge Podge puzzle glue all over it and frame it on my wall. Because it's definitely the biggest puzzle that'll have ever completed.

Now. I have absolutely no picture to go with anything that I just blogged about. But I did take a picture today from my run in the park. It's what I do when I need a break from puzzle making.

Wednesday June 30, 2010

I'm getting married in 25 days. I think I've gotten a lot done. Every day I knock something new off the "to do list".

Once I finish a task, I have a sense of accomplishment.

I heave a sigh of relief that there is one less thing to do now....

and then I log in to The Knot.

Thank you, Knot, for ruining any sense of progress I felt. I wasn't aware that I had 140 items OVERDUE. So much for relief...

So, I head to Gerbes, buy another bottle of Riesling (a preemptive strike against an anxiety attack), start to tackle the next item on the list and hope that I finish before the wedding. Or before I have a mental breakdown.

Proud of myself for having 263 more things to do in 25 days. :)

Cheers!

Increasing in Love

Tuesday June 29, 2010

I think that a good way to fall more in love with someone, or to increase your affection for a person is to spend time with the people who love them as much as, if not more than you. So, I spent Tuesday with my niece, Ariah.

I'm pretty sure she loves Austin as much as, if not more than I do. Her mom drops her off Tuesday morning and Ariah looks around the house

"Where's Austin? Is he coming over today?"

"Sorry, Riah, he's still at camp." Her face falls a little bit.

Later, "I drew a picture. Take a picture and send it to Austin."

"When's Austin getting back from camp?"

Is he working with little kids?

Does he play with them?

"Time to go to school, Ariah."

All holy hell breaks loose. Ariah does NOT want to go to school. She cries. She wants to call her mommy. She wants to stay home and play with her bubby. She hates school. It's BOOORING. She hates reading. She hates recess. She hates math. She. does. NOT. want to go to school.

So, I tell her, "Ariah. Let me share with you the hard truth about life. Everyone works. Do I work?"

Yes.

Does Your mommy work?

Yes.

Does Austin work?

Yes! He works at Rock Bridge High School. He's a teacher.

Up to this point all her answers have been whiny, but on this one, she perks up and answers with some more enthusiasm.

"Well, Ariah. Where's your job?"

In my classroom?

Yep.

Will you pick me up from school?

Sure.

After school we go to Target.

"Look! A picture frame, Turtle (that's what my niece and nephews call me...long story). I can put a picture of Austin in it."

And it begins again.....

I tell Ariah I have to make a phone call to the lady about my dress because I need to go try it on.

"Did Austin already try on his stuff?"

When's Austin coming back again? Austin's funny.

Can we get something for Austin at Target?

We make it home from Target. Sadly, with nothing for Austin (sorry, babe).

Take a picture of me! Send it to Austin.

I go to make a phone call.

"What are you doing?"

I start to answer "getting ready to..."

But Ariah cuts me off. "No, not you. That was to Austin".

I should have known.

I think I may have some serious competition on my hands :)

Fear the Turtle

Monday June 28, 2010
I have two giant dogs. My dad thinks it's great that since I live alone, I have guard dogs to protect me. Little does he know, that my "guard dogs" are huge weenies and that my 100lbs dogs are scared of.....a TURTLE!?!

Mya was the bravest; she'd at least get close enough to sniff at it before running away.

But Polo...he wasn't having anything to do with it.

I feel very protected.
