Sunday morning my sister calls to say that she's been having contractions and to let me know that I need to be "on call" that day. I'm the designated babysitter for the three older kiddos when she goes to the hospital.
After church, Austin and I head home to relax and get some stuff done around the house. Sharon says it will probably be awhile before my services are needed, so I am hoping to have some time before we have three kids to contend with :) Wishful thinking. Around 3:00 or so, Sharon calls me and asks if I can come get Ethan and Ariah- she's taking the Fat Baby to the ER b/c he's rolling on the floor, holding his tummy, and crying that it hurts. Whoa...not the hospital visit I was expecting her to call about, but off we went just the same.
Austin and I pick up Ethan and Ariah and pack up all of their over night clothes and the Fat Baby's stuff too, just in case Sharon stays at the hospital and the kids have to spend the night with us...it would turn out to be good planning on our part.
About an hour after Ethan and Ariah had been at our place, my mom calls and says she's bringing the Fat Baby over. The hospital thought he had a twisted intestine (ouch!), but that it had worked itself out, so they were discharging him...and taking Sharon upstairs to Labor and Delivery. Sharon did want something dramatic to happen for baby #4 since the first 3 were fairly uneventful births...guess she got her wish. She went into Boone with one baby and left with another :)
So, Austin and I spent the afternoon with the kids...carving pumpkins, going to Hearnes for Halloween fun, and Trick or Treating. By 7:00ish when we were finally home and getting ready for dinner, we were exhausted! :) When mom called at 8:20 to tell us baby Aliyah Christina Johnson had been born at 8:09pm and she was going to come pick up the kids to take them to the hospital, I said "no way!". Ha. After spending hours wrangling them and finally getting them settled in for bed, there was no way I was going to do it all over again when they got back from the hospital. But I promised the kids we would visit first thing in the morning after a pancake breakfast and they were happy with that :)
Sunday night was the first night since we've been married that Austin and I crashed before 10:00! Too much fun packed into one night for this old couple...haha.
